Description of the individual sections
Advanced modules
Design, information processing, optics, imaging, biomaterials, and materials
Key competencies (subject-related), interdisciplinary
Key-competencies courses impart complementary subject-related and interdisciplinary skills
Industrial / clinical-technical internship
The industrial / clinical-technical internship lasts at least 12 weeks and must be done either in the industry or at a medical care facility (hospitals, etc.). The aim of the internship is to give students an insight into the diversity of operational processes and career prospects in medical engineering. More information under: Internship / Internship Office.
Term paper / Research Work
In the research project for their term paper / research work, students gain initial experience in working on research-relevant issues. The term paper / research work must be written in a specialization subject (different from the specialization subject in which the master’s thesis is written).
Specialization subject, including practical training
Students can choose from 12 application or method-oriented specialization subjects.
Master’s thesis
The study program is completed with the master’s thesis. The master’s thesis can also be written in cooperation with a company. It must be written in a specialization subject (different from the specialization subject in which the term paper is written).
The Module Guide (also called module handbook) describes the modules and the required courses belonging to the module. It is published in the Campus Management System C@MPUS.

Specialization subjects
In the specialization subjects, students can expand skills that are highly relevant to medical engineering. Students must select two from the 12 specialization subjects.
Specialization Subject: Biomedical materials and process engineering
Specialization subject professor: Prof. Dr. Günter Tovar
