Students with dependent relatives can also get advice from the student counseling service of the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart. If you have questions relating to BAföG grants (Federal Training Assistance Act for students in Germany), please contact the BAföG office at the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart.

Semester fee scholarship for prospective students

Educational justice is important to us! Since the summer semester 2017, prospective students who cannot pay the first semester fee at the University of Stuttgart (or at any other institute of higher education within the jurisdiction of the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart) have had the opportunity to apply for the new semester fee scholarship from the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart.

Ten scholarships are awarded at the beginning of each semester. The scholarship is designed in a way that the student can receive benefits according to the BAföG (Federal Training Assistance Act for students in Germany) to finance their studies after enrollment in addition to the stipendium.

The prerequisites are: The applicant

  • has not yet reached the age of 30,
  • enrolls at a higher education institution for the first time,
  • must not receive any other allowances to pay the semester fee,
  • and they or their parents are receiving specific social benefits from the government (basic income, unemployment benefit II, social welfare assistance, benefits according to the Asylum Seekers’ Benefits Act, or family allowances).
