The International Office will help you to settle in and get started!

Please check on our Corona website for potential changes and updates regarding the necessary first steps.

Most of our events during the orientation program are online; therefore, you can also take part if you are not in Stuttgart yet.

The International Office offers an orientation program for degree students and exchange students. During this program we organize special information meetings that will help you settle in and feel comfortable. 

Degree students

The International Office of the University of Stuttgart organizes an online information event for international full degree students in German and English study programs:

Held in English. Prior registration is not required.

The scholarships and aids presented are for temporary, partial financing of the living costs. Full scholarships or scholarships towards the tuition fees are not available. International student advisors at the International Office will answer your questions at the end of the session.

For students with advanced German skills we recommend to attend also the following event:

International degree students who would like to get some information and tips for preparing  their stay at the University of Stuttgart can take part in the Pre-departure information web seminar (event in English).

The Welcome Checklist provides you with helpful information for your first days in Stuttgart. Do you still have urgent concerns or unanswered questions? Feel free to address them during our open office hours at the International Office or simply reach out to our responsible staff members:

From Monday, October 9 to Friday, October 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the International Office offers a Welcome Lounge for newly arrived international students in addition to the regular office hours. In the foyer of the IZ you will receive advice, support in finding contact persons, light refreshments as well as opportunities to take a deep breath and exchange with other international students.

Health care system, housing rules, getting around safely, sorting your garbage. Living in Stuttgart will be different to what you are used to. Join this online seminar and help yourself to a smooth start in everyday life!

Organizing your studies is a major challenge for your first semester. Students in our English taught Master´s programs will receive the handout Studying in Stuttgart for newbies, that gives an insights in the basics of academic life in Stuttgart, through their study program.

Wednesday, September 6, 3 p.m. CEST

Important: Don´t miss the introduction of your study program!

Introductory session in German for degree students in German taught study programs. This event is offered only in the winter semester. Please join one of our English introductory sessions.

You will learn more about visa application, health insurance, accommodation, enrollment and other things to consider when you prepare for your arrival in Stuttgart.

Exchange students

For exchange and program students who participate in the intensive German course in September or March the orientation program takes place during the language course.
Exchange students who do not participate in the intensive German course and arrive in October or April receive all information via e-mail.
