In case of emergency

These are the most important telephone numbers and instructions in case of emergency, such as an attack, bomb threat, fire alarm or an accident.

The central emergency number is the university's central point of contact in an emergency, and it is also responsible for informing the university management.

What to do in the case of:

Bring yourself and others to safety!

Outside:

  • Run away from the attacker
  • Warn others
  • Get behind police lines - follow instructions from the police
  • Share any information you have with the police
  • Go to the assembly points - emergency personnel onsite will tell you where to go.

In buildings:

  • General rule: stay where you are / lock the room
  • Be aware of possible lines of fire
  • Use blind spots in the room. Stay close to the ground
  • Don't stand near the door
  • Radiator niches usually do not have solid walls
  • Close the windows, close blinds and darken rooms where possible
  • Approach doors and windows from protected sides
  • Turn off the lights
  • Stay calm, don't draw attention to yourself
  • Don't make contact with the attacker

If a threat is made you must inform:

• Say what has happened
• The police will assess whether the threat is serious or not
• Order evacuation, if necessary
• The police will notify the fire services/emergency services

If you are ordered to evacuate:

  • Set off the fire alarms in the effected buildings.
  • Evacuate following evacuation procedures
  • Fire alarms following the escape route plan
  • Find an assembly point
  • Relocation of the assembly point if necessary, depending on the situation, follow instructions from the emergency services

Always assume that a substance is hazardous!

  • Cordon off the danger zone but do not endanger yourself and keep a safe distance from any hazards. Maintain a distance of at least 50 meters if possible.
  • Do not eat or drink anything
  • Leave the danger zone, prevent others from entering the danger zone
  • Do not try to offer help in the danger zone
  • Close the affected rooms.
  • Do not touch people or objects in the danger zone
  • Isolate people who leave the danger zone
  • Inform police and the fire services of the whereabouts of these people
  • Note or document the location.
  • Do not take photos if there is a danger of explosion!

Overcome shock/disorientation, be ready to act!

In the case of fire:

  • Evacuate the building
  • Use the fire alarms (locations: stairwells, hallways, exit doors).
  • Follow the instructions from fire protection officers
  • Evacuate following the emergency plans
  • Do not use the elevators!
  • Use designated escape routes
  • Find an assembly point
  • Administer first-aid
