How is the internship structured?

The overview shows you how the industrial and clinical-technical internships are structured. If you cannot read the diagram, please contact the program manager (Ms. Bosse-Mettler).

Overview of the structure of the industrial and clinical-technical internship
 

The internship comprises at least 12 weeks of practical training. 
Students can choose between three different types of internships:

  • Industrial internship at a medical technology company. In this internship students have to work in three task areas for at least one week each. All three task areas may come from one field of work.
  • Clinical-technical internship at a medical care facility. In this internship students have to work in three task areas for at least one week each. All three task areas may come from one field of work.
  • Project-related internship at a medical technology company or at a medical care facility, while at least 12 weeks must be worked on a project in the field of medical engineering. Within the framework of the project, students have to work in at least three task areas for at least one week each (for task areas see the internship guidelines).

Approval of the internship

For approval of the compulsory internship, an application must be made in person, after making an appointment.

Your application must include:

  • Application for approval of the compulsory internship
  • Original internship certificate
  • Original activity report and technical report, in paper version

In addition, the following documents have to be uploaded as a PDF in ILIAS under Contents / Internship report submission:

  • Activity report
  • Technical report
  • Internship certificate.

Requirement:
Admission to the course by the Internship Office after successful application.

Once all documents (see above) have been received in full and evaluated as successful, the procedure is considered completed and the 15 ECTS can be credited - after a maximum processing time of three months.

Requirement for the application:
The applicant must be enrolled in the Medical Engineering master’s degree program.

Further regulations:
A compulsory internship must not be done / completed during a semester of leave.
