Dr. Felix Mauch from the Technical University in Munich will be speaking about a research project that traces the planning of the city of Singapore as a “logistic” metropolis. Within this project, logistics will be researched as a science and technology intensive practice that not only controlled the flow of colonial goods and capital, but also led to the new configuration of urban space.

At the interface of technology and environmental history, this lecture will argue that the expansion of Singapore should not only be interpreted in infrastructural and topographical terms, but also as a direct consequence of land development. This introduced new forms of control, coordination and regulations, which should be categorized specifically as “logistic” in terms of their social, power-political and material consequences.
