Workshop discussion with Daniel Kehlmann, students and scientists from the University of Stuttgart.

Moderation: PD Dr. Felix Heidenreich, IZKT

While the event the previous evening focused on experiences in Silicon Valley, and insight into the future of society as a whole, this workshop discussion takes a closer look at the social changes that have led to the digitalization and algorithmization of culture, science and the university. What will happen to intellectual work, to thinking and feeling, if machines become our must important interlocutors: typewriters (these have been around for a long time), electronic books (such as Kindle), thinking machines, such as algorithms, yes, emotionalization machines that can deliver any desired mood, every “special interest” every thinkable subgenre of a world of limitless series? What does it mean to not only use machines, but to live with them, to share a biotope and intellectual space? We want to find answers to these questions, with reference to the key topics from Kehlmann’s work: magic, measuring, fake and violence.

Lecturers and students at the University of Stuttgart are welcome to join in with questions and comments! The workshop discussion will be streamed live. Input can be delivered via various channels. We are looking forward to receiving your questions! Via email would be great!
