Current Information on interim operation of the University Library City Center

May 26, 2025 / wia / UB

The construction work in May 2025 created the conditions for the University Library at the city center location to continue operating on an interim basis until the necessary general refurbishment.

Until the general refurbishment, only the ground floor is open for use. The two upper floors and soon also the basement will be closed. After completion of the construction work, these floors will be separated from the first floor by new fire doors and walls. Some of the employees will move to the interim location at Herdweg 51 as soon as the offices there have been completed. Preparations are being made to move the holdings from the magazine in the basement to an interim magazine.

The circulation desk, the pick-up shelf with the available media orders and the self-checkout terminal have been moved to the first floor.

Study places for individual work are available in the foyer, study places for group work are available in the auditorium.

Three computer workstations for researching the catalog and e-media, two book scanner and a microform reader can now be found in the foyer.

A copy machine has been set up at the study stations for group work in the auditorium.

The TIK box for the collection of plot orders is now located at the pick-up shelf on the first floor.

The TIK user helpdesk service in the city center has moved to the Kollegiengebäude II (K II). You can now find the TIK user helpdesk service in the entrance area of the Library of the Institutes of Linguistics and Literary Studies on the 3rd floor of K II (Keplerstraße 17).

It is not longer possible for library visitors to take books from the shelves. All desired items must be requested via the online catalog and can then be checked out at the pick-up shelf via the self-service terminal or at the circulation desk. Media can only be returned at the circulation desk in the foyer. Outside of service hours, media can be returned to the security service.

Doctoral students who wish to submit the mandatory copies of their theses can do so as usual by appointment in the entrance area at the office of the Team Publication Services (T3).

The building of the University of Stuttgart Library on Vaihingen campus can be used without limitations. All study spaces are available there and the regular opening hours apply. From June 2, the building in the city center will also be open again until 10 p.m.
