Following a smouldering fire in the library in August 2023, it was possible to continue to use the building as a meeting place for a transitional period with restrictions. Other areas of the building will now have to be closed until a general refurbishment is carried out.
In order to enable minimal operation on the first floor with a circulation desk, a few study spaces and a reduced number of staff workplaces, new fire protection zones will be set up with the construction work now taking place. The upper floor and later also the basement will then only be temporarily accessible to library staff with restrictions.
The upper floor and later also the basement will then only be temporarily accessible to library staff with certain limitations.
The following changes will take place after the construction work is completed at the end of May:
The user helpdesk service and the TIK UB-Oool are no longer offered in the library. For a transitional period, the TIK user helpdesk in the city center will be relocated to the 3rd floor of the College Building II in the Library of the Institutes of Linguistics and Literary Studies.
The circulation desk is relocated to the foyer.
The pick-up shelves for ordered media and the self-checkout terminal will also be moved to the ground floor.
Media returns will only take place at the circulation desk and outside service hours at the security desk.
Book scanners, photocopiers and computer workstations for researching the catalog and the library's electronic holdings are available in the foyer.
Study spaces are still available in the foyer and in the ausitorium: for individual work you will find spaces in the foyer, for group work in the ausitorium.
The holdings are not available for self-service. All media must be ordered via the catalog.
