According to the Statutes of the University of Stuttgart on the Awarding Process of the Germany Scholarship [Satzung der Universität Stuttgart für die Vergabe von Deutschlandstipendien], the Rector’s Office of the University of Stuttgart is calling for applications for about 200 scholarships for summer semester 2019, lasting from April 01, 2019 to March 31, 2020.

The scholarship amounts to 300 € per month, half of which is financed by a sponsor and the other half by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The scholarship is meant to support students who

  • are expected to, or have already produced outstanding academic or professional achievements = Grade Criterion

and

  • are able to provide evidence of Additional Criteria e.g.:
    • social or ecological commitments, involvement in higher education policy, etc.
    • exceptional circumstances (personal, social, family, etc.)
    • special prizes or distinctions
    • a notable personal development
    • further skills.

Evidence of additional criteria must include information on the kind and duration of the commitment (from...to) as well as the number of hours per week/month/year, if applicable.

This scholarship is talent-oriented and achievement-oriented. 200 scholarships are offered to about 16.000 students.

The 200 scholarships are divided as follows:

  • 117 earmarked scholarships are given to the degree programs listed in the following PDF.
  • 83 uncommitted scholarships are given to a degree program without being bound to a specific purpose. The Rector's Office allocated these uncommitted scholarships to the faculties 1-10 as indicated in the following PDF. Therefore, every applicant has a chance for a scholarship, regardless of his/her degree program!
  • The distribution of scholarships to the individual faculties and study courses in detail (PDF)

Based on the applications, the scholarship committee of the respective faculty determines a ranking with list places, according to which the award takes place.

The Rector’s Office divides the 200 scholarships between freshmen and students as follows (please note: modified numbers!):

Faculty Number of scholarships to students

  • The application is submitted for the degree program in which the applicant is enrolled. In case of combined degree programs, the application is submitted for a main subject. Minor and complimentary subjects are excluded. Multiple applications are prohibited.

Please check carefully whether you meet the requirements for a successful application. By means of the grades given in the tables, you can assess your prospects of a successful application.

Following grades have been set as minimum grades:

  Minimum grade
Bachelor, Teaching qualification programs 1.7 (grade in the "Abitur"/university entrance qualification)
