Information on the scholarship and the awarding process

According to the Statutes of the University of Stuttgart on the Awarding Process of the Deutschlandstipendium [Satzung der Universität Stuttgart für die Vergabe von Deutschlandstipendien], the Rector’s Office of the University of Stuttgart is calling for applications for about 159 (status: beginning of December 2023) scholarships for summer semester 2024, lasting from April 01, 2024 to March 31, 2025.

The scholarship amounts to 300 € per month, half of which is financed by a sponsor and the other half by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The scholarship is meant to support students who

  • are expected to, or have already produced outstanding academic or professional achievements = Grade Criterion

and

  • are able to provide evidence of Additional Criteria e.g.:
    • social or ecological commitments, involvement in higher education policy, etc.
    • exceptional circumstances (personal, social, family, etc.)
    • special prizes or distinctions
    • a notable personal development
    • further skills.

Evidence of additional criteria must include information on the kind and duration of the commitment (from...to) as well as the number of hours per week/month/year, if applicable and generally should not be older than two years.

This scholarship is talent-oriented and achievement-oriented. 159 scholarships are offered.

The 159 scholarships are divided as follows:

  • 96 earmarked scholarships are given to the degree programs.
  • 63 uncommitted scholarships are given to a degree program without being bound to a specific purpose.
  • The Rector’s office spreads these uncommitted scholarships within faculties 1-10. Therefore, every applicant has a chance for a scholarship, regardless of his/her (eligible) degree program. The Scholarship Commission of the relevant faculty will rank all applicants. The scholarships are then given according to this ranking

The allocation of the 159 scholarships in detail is shown in the following PDF: The distribution of scholarships to the individual faculties in detail [de] (PDF, not barrier free; if you have difficulties with reading it, feel free to contact us via phone or e-mail).

For a promising application, please note that at the time of the application, you should:

  • be able to provide evidence that your last regular subject-related semester did not take place before summer semester 2024 (the individual standard period of studies as shown in C@MPUS will be considered in case you hand in the document – please attach the proof available in C@MPUS)

  • be able to provide evidence of the specified average (grade criterion)
  • be able to provide evidence of the additional criteria

  • Please note that if you are enrolled in one of the Bachelor´s programs in the winter semester 2023/24 and expect an admission confirmation for a Master´s program for summer semester 2024, your application will be considered among other applications for the Master´s degree programs, 1st subject-related semester (2nd subject-related semester, if applicable).
  • The application is submitted for the degree program in which the applicant is enrolled. In case of combined degree programs, the application is submitted for a main subject. Minor and complimentary subjects are excluded.
  • Multiple applications are prohibited.
