Information on the scholarship and the awarding process

According to the Statutes of the University of Stuttgart on the Awarding Process of the Germany Scholarship [Satzung der Universität Stuttgart für die Vergabe von Deutschlandstipendien], the Rector’s Office of the University of Stuttgart is calling for applications for about 156 scholarships for summer semester 2021, lasting from April 01, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

The scholarship amounts to 300 € per month, half of which is financed by a sponsor and the other half by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The scholarship is meant to support students who

  • are expected to, or have already produced outstanding academic or professional achievements = Grade Criterion

and

  • are able to provide evidence of Additional Criteria e.g.:
    • social or ecological commitments, involvement in higher education policy, etc.
    • exceptional circumstances (personal, social, family, etc.)
    • special prizes or distinctions
    • a notable personal development
    • further skills.

Evidence of additional criteria must include information on the kind and duration of the commitment (from...to) as well as the number of hours per week/month/year, if applicable.

This scholarship is talent-oriented and achievement-oriented. 156 scholarships are offered to about 16.000 students.

The 156 scholarships are divided as follows:

  • 82 earmarked scholarships are given to the degree programs.
  • 74 uncommitted scholarships are given to a degree program without being bound to a specific purpose.
  • The Rector’s office spreads these uncommitted scholarships within faculties 1-10. Therefore, every applicant has a chance for a scholarship, regardless of his/her (eligible) degree program. The Scholarship Commission of the relevant faculty will rank all applicants. The scholarships are then given according to this ranking

For a promising application, please note that at the time of the application, you should:

  • be able to provide evidence that your last regular subject-related semester did not take place before summer semester 2021,
  • have acquired the necessary amount of credit points according to the curriculum of your degree program
  • be able to provide evidence of the specified average (grade criterion)
  • be able to provide evidence of the additional criteria
  • be enrolled at the University of Stuttgart in summer semester 2021
  • Please note that if you are enrolled in one of the Bachelor´s programs in the winter semester 2020/21 and expect an admission confirmation for a Master´s program for summer semester 2021, your application will be considered among other applications for the Master´s degree programs, 1st subject-related semester (2nd subject-related semester, if applicable).
  • The application is submitted for the degree program in which the applicant is enrolled. In case of combined degree programs, the application is submitted for a main subject. Minor and complimentary subjects are excluded.
  • Multiple applications are prohibited.

Please ensure that you meet the criteria for a successful application. The list of grades for the subjects may be a guideline for you to estimate the possible success of your application.

Average Grade for a promising application:

  • Bachelor students (including Teaching Qualification) studying in the 1st semester in winter 2020/21: 1,9 (grade in the "Abitur"/university entrance qualification)*
  • Bachelor students (including Teaching Qualification) studying in the 1st semester in summer 2021: 1,9 (grade in the "Abitur"/university entrance qualification)*
  • All other students: please refer to the list of grades (PDF) [de] with a survey on the grades, which had to be proven in the previous years in order to achieve a grant.* This list shows the marks, that were sufficient last year (2020/21). They could thus be a rough estimation. Please note: in these cases, generally a notable number of credits were proven in the additional criteria.

If the list does not show a grade for your subject, the relevant grade will be determined by the grants committee later in the process. Anyway, your application will only be successful if you can proof grades well above average.

*In case of hardship:
If the intended grades and/or credits could not have been achieved due to hardening circumstances, this may be justified in the application form. The commission will then decide whether the reasons are accepted.
