What will European cultural life be like in the digital era?

Off and online discussion with the State Secretary Petra Olschowski (MWK),
Emmanuel Suard (Arte) and others involved in the cultural sector.

The corona crisis has accelerated and intensified the trend towards digitalization: we are currently experiencing a rapid digitalization of cultural life. This has hit many people involved in the cultural sector hard, even existentially. The digitalization has both aesthetic and social consequences. But it might still be possible to grab the bull by the horns. What opportunities might the internet offer culture? What are the structural consequences for the production, reception and evaluation of culture? This German-French-European dialogue will be investigating these questions.

Our guests are Emmanuel Suard, who, as administrative director and board member at arte, is responsible for the processes of digitalization, and State Secretary Petra Olschowski. Clips of people involved in the cultural sector will also be played. These all play an important part in the discussion on what we want the digitalization of cultural life to be like. The discussion is part of the series “The Aachen Treaty: New German-French impulses for Europe?”.

Moderation: Felix Heidenreich (IZKT)

This event is a cooperation between Europe Direct Stuttgart, Institut français Stuttgart, IZKT University of Stuttgart and the Literaturhaus Stuttgart, together with the network of the French Cultural Institute in Baden-Württemberg.
