The aim of this project is to unite research findings from AI development, sociology, media and literary studies with journalistic practices and social engagement.
It is aimed at students from all subjects and courses at the University of Stuttgart and the Hochschule der Medien. The project pursues the question: how can complex research findings be successfully communicated to wider society? Which tools, formats, and types of communication are suitable for public discussion on the topic of AI?
Equipped with a microphone and camera, interdisciplinary teams of students will produce their own reports that document and analyze social dialogue, entitled “Is everything taken care of? – The future of AI” (3.12.2019).
First, theoretical investigations of scientific communication will be conducted, using the challenges presented by AI as an example. The principles of journalistic work, such as thematic research, composing news reports, important medial display formats and the necessary basic technical knowledge will be taught and practiced in a cross-media preparation for the subject of AI.
The best student report will be awarded a prize and published.
Credits: This seminar will be held at the University of Stuttgart as an interdisciplinary key skills qualification and offered at the Hochschule der Medien as a student project as part of the course Crossmedia-Redaktion/PR. To gain 3 credits, participants must attend all parts of the course and produce a report document.
This project seminar is part of the MWK funding scheme “Lehr- und Lernlabore”, which supports innovative teaching formats, as part of the “Change Labs” project at the University of Stuttgart.
