Music and Democracy

From the national anthem to elaborately produced film music in videos by the new right - music can benefit democracy, but it can also be misused. Music is often described as a language of its own; it has its own vocabulary for conveying messages: Moods and feelings are influenced by it, memories are evoked or associations are awakened. How does this language influence democracy? How political is music? Can music be free of politics at all? Using different examples, the close relationship between music and democracy will be examined and lead to exciting discussions.
