When the living room becomes the office.
The recent home office boom is meeting with mixed reactions in architecture and housing. On the one hand, there are more affirmative approaches that attempt to somehow integrate necessary functions into the home. On the other side is the concern that relieving spaces of retreat are sacrificed by overlapping them with the sphere of work. Balancing everyday activities in the home takes on a new urgency and can be an enormous burden, especially in cramped living situations.
In order to understand the significance of this field of tension for housing and living experience, it is helpful to reflect on technical innovations and the design of living spaces as well as on housing needs and uses and the relationship between care work and gainful employment.
The Habitology Network invites you to discuss these aspects from very different disciplinary perspectives in the context of the event series Wohnen im Dialog.
