In this course, participants will receive a broad overview of different diversity dimensions and how they are approached in academia.

Specifically we will talk about individual and collective identities, gender, sexuality, race, class, (dis)ability and neurodiversity. We will receive an insight into different research disciplines and critical theories such as gender studies, disability studies or queer theory. In addition, we will tackle issues such as unconscious bias or hegemonic power structures, and reflect about our own biases.

The goal of this course is to build a foundation of terminology and theory which you can use to discuss issues about gender and diversity in an academic way.

PhD candidates are encouraged to talk to their supervisors about the possibility to receive credit points for the course.

Since there are only a limited number of spots available, please register by sending an E-mail. Students can register via Campus.

The course can be counted towards module A of the certificate Gender and Diversity. Diversity in language, society, research and practice, which can be acquired by students, doctoral students and employees of the University of Stuttgart. However, you can also attend the course without acquiring the certificate.
