The focus of this discussion is the digitalization of scientific communication and research processes, which is reflected by the bundling, evaluation, and filtering of information by web-based technologies. The main question is: to what extent can such developments alter the evaluation of scientific excellence? During the discussion, the experts will also consider the fact that even the evaluation algorithms that derive from these digitalization processes are not neutral. They are extensively influenced by the interests and values of various social groups and market participants.
The discussion will feature: Dr. Ulrich Herb (./scidecode, Open Access and Open Science Expert); Dr. Angela Holzer (DFG, consultant für Scientific Library Services and Information Systems); Dr. Wilhelm Krull (fFounding Director of the New Institute Hamburg, General Secretary of the VolkswagenStiftung until 2019); Prof. Dr. Armin Grunwald (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Head of the Institute for Technology Assessment and System Analysis).
