The University of Stuttgart's Racing Team has unveiled its new racing car for the coming Formula Student season. As part of a stage presentation, in front of around 200 invited guests, the student motor sport team presented the club's sixteenth racing car on May 12 in the Strudelbachhalle in Weissach.

Following two years of the pandemic, this is the team's first rollout to take place in-person since 2019. In addition to sponsors and supporters, family members, team alumni and friendly Formula Student teams were also invited. "The rollout is the first important milestone of the season. Every member of the team is proud of their own work, and that of the entire team. It is a great feeling to be able to share these emotions with the people who have been supporting us for last months,” says team leader Johanna Hintz.

The main events of the evening; a team presentation, welcome speech, insights into the manufacturing process and technical details of the new racing car, as well as interviews with sponsors and alumni, framed the evening's main highlight: with special light and fog effects, the F0711-16 was unveiled to the public for the first time. Afterwards, the guests were also given the chance to take a close look at the car - the team members proudly answered technical questions.

Changes in all technical areas

In October 2021, approximately thirty students began designing and then building the car. Seven instructive months of hard work, many night shifts, many obstacles to overcome, and a lot of fun. "Compared to its predecessors, the F0711-16 features alterations to all technical areas (chassis, engine and powertrain, aerodynamics and frame, and electrical system). The main design goals this year were to reduce the weight and increase the reliability of the car," explains general vehicle manager Marco Kaiser.

In July and August, the team will travel with the F0711-16 to Formula Student events throughout Europe and compete in various disciplines against student teams from around the world. In addition to the home event at the Hockenheimring, the schedule also includes competitions in Austria, Hungary, Croatia and the Netherlands.

Anyone who is interested in helping to build the F0711-17 after the 2022 season concludes in September is welcome to contact the racing team.
