Summary at the end of the fourth Corona examination period

October 4, 2021

The fourth examination period to take place during the Corona pandemic has now been completed. Below is a summary and a "thank you" to all of those involved.

In total, there were about 67,000 exam entries for approximately 3,100 exams between mid-July and early October 2021. These figures hide a massive organizational and logistical effort - which has increased exponentially during the corona pandemic.

Despite the frequent changes in regulations and the hygiene concept requirements, Matthias Gaugele, Acting Head of the Division Student Affairs, offers a positive summary of the past three examination periods: "All those involved in the examinations adhered to all the regulations, hygiene rules and route concepts in a truly exemplary manner and worked together brilliantly as a team. Not a single exam has been suspected of being the source of a coronavirus infection." He went on to emphasize, that the examination phase for the 2021 summer semester, which has just been completed, went off without a hitch.

Review of previous Corona exam periods

There were many open questions at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. At that time, the examination period was just taking place and had to be temporarily postponed. "First of all, we had to find out what the options were, and whether it would even be possible to hold onsite examinations," remembers Gaugele. A lot of information about this was provided, but it was often changed at short notice. However, because all those involved in the examinations at the University of Stuttgart worked together so well as a team, it was possible to quickly develop and implement a concept for conducting onsite examinations under pandemic conditions.

"Our thanks for this outstanding achievement go to a great many people and organizations - first and foremost, of course, to all students, examiners and proctors, but equally to the examination planning team at the Examinations Office, the cleaning staff, security service, housekeeping service, the Vice Rectorate for Teaching, stuvus and everyone else who was involved in successfully tackling this challenge.”
